About Q-Wiki

The term "wiki" refers to software that lets anyone publish or modify a web page. Wiki software makes it possible for Internet users around the world to collaborate in creating and editing online content. Q-Wiki is a collaborative publishing project focused exclusively on how-to content. The main purpose of Q-Wiki is to build a collection of how-to content on virtually any helpful subject that anyone can read, write, and edit.

Q-Wiki and Quamut.com
Quamut.com content is commissioned, written, and edited by our professional in-house staff. Q-Wiki content, on the other hand, is created and edited exclusively by users of the Quamut website. Apart from this one major difference, the Quamut.com and Q-Wiki websites work together and even share several key features, such as tagging and search capabilities. As Q-Wiki grows, we'll also continue to expand the collection of how-to guides that we produce in-house and publish on Quamut.com.

Q-Wiki's Goals
In addition to providing a vast collection of free how-to content that anyone can read and contribute to, the Q-Wiki project has two more specific goals:
  • To empower Quamut users to expand on topics that Quamut.com already covers
  • To provide a way for Quamut users to published their own standalone how-to guides from scratch
Expand on Topics that Quamut.com Already Covers
The how-to guides published on Quamut.com mostly cover broad topics, such as Bartending or Digital Photography. Since our guides pack the most crucial how-to tips on each subject into a six-page chart, naturally they can't cover everything about the subject. By using Q-Wiki, Quamut users can help expand upon each Quamut guide that we publish on Quamut.com. For instance, a user who read the Bartending guide might create a quick how-to guide to making a specific drink on Q-Wiki that the original Quamut.com Bartending guide doesn't cover. Similarly, someone might read the Quamut guide to Digital Photography and decide to write a guide to creating High Dynamic Range (HDR) digital photos on Q-Wiki. This way each Quamut.com guide can serve as a springboard for dozens or even hundreds of additional related how-to guides.

Publish New Standalone How-To Guides
Q-Wiki also makes it possible for users to create and edit how-to guides on subjects not covered at all by Quamut.com's in-house guides. These standalone guides can range from quick step-by-step instructions on narrowly focused topics, such as How to Cut a Watermelon, to more extensive guides to subjects that we've yet to cover on Quamut.com, such as How to Build a Boat.
