1. Bargello moves in lines across the canvas. Your pattern will probably show only a single line.
2. Begin by stitching a single line to establish the pattern.
3. All Bargello stitches are straight up and down and usually cross four (4) canvas threads.
4. The pattern moves by steps which are usually (but not always) two (2) threads away from the previous step.
5. A step can have one or more stitches in it.
6. Begin in the center of your canvas at one of the peaks of the pattern.
7. Bring your needle up two threads above the center of the canvas.
8. Bring your needle down two threads below the center of the canvas -- your first stitch.
9. Complete any additional stitches, if any, in that step.
10. Working on one side, and following the pattern, make the stitches in the next step.
11. Once you have completed the row in one direction, go back to the center and work the other side.
Tips for Success:
Plan the pattern of color in your piece before you begin to stitch.
After the first row, always work entirely across the canvas.
Bring your needle up in an empty hole and down in a partially filled hole.
