Keep Your Relationship Alive

It is fighting against the inevitable structure of human nature.

Having a relationship with another person is the most unnatural and difficult thing, especially in the modern world where everyone has kazillion things to do. The world seems to look all rosy during the first honeymoon period, but once that initial period is over, things seem to fall apart like never imagined before. Relax a little, and make little efforts to rekindle your relationship.

  • STRESS - Believe it or not, stress is the biggest reason why couples turn against each other. Stress from work, stress from children, stress from anything and everything can put you in a bad mood and make you a lot more irritable. Lack of quality sleep could also make you very irritable. So take a minute to manage your everyday stress for yourself, and for your loved one.
  • REPETITION - Our brain is designed to react less and less to the same stimulus over time, which we call it habituation. As we see more and more of one person, we gain more trust and comfort, but tend to lose the excitement we had in the beginning. There is no better aphrodisiac than seeing something NEW. So try something that you normally won't do. If you are a quiet and demure person, try being more bold and forward, and if you are a loud person, try being more reserved and demure. Try wearing new clothes which flatter your figure, that you haven't worn before. Trust me, your loved one will notice it before you do. And the key here is to do this once in a while. The random timing of this change will keep your loved one on his/her toes. If you do this regularly, he or she will naturally get used to it, so make sure to be different at random timing.
  • NO ASSUMPTION - Never assume anything about your loved one. People are brought up very differently and people think very very differently than you do. If you assume that they will think just like you do, that is a big mistake. In any situation, try not to assume what your loved one was thinking. If you are curious about what he or she was thinking, don't let it brew inside you. Be concise and direct, and without being hurtful, ask your loved one what you are curious about.

In many cases, we get bogged down by the everyday burden of ours, and we get too tired, angry and hurt to be understanding of others. Love is what pushes us through those tough times, to grow, learn and to be wiser. If you have someone who loves you, take some time today to rekindle that love. Because you don't find it out there too often thesedays.
